Amaterasu Wing consists primarily of goldriders and those riders who, due to temporary disability, are assisting with dispatch and operations. These riders spend their days on the radio dispatching riders, negotiating with customers, and keeping the Weyr's books with the help of the Headwoman.

Karachun Wing is the Weyrleader's wing, in charge of search and rescue services. Wingriders must be willing to cope with being "on call" at odd hours and high-pressure situations, but their success stories are their own reward. Horizon works on a scale basis, providing service without regard to ability to pay and basing fees on the income level of the individual or group requesting their services.

Deygan was founded after a Renegade attack, and provides internal policing and security for the Weyr, as well as contract services to outsiders in need of their help. While service in Deygan can be dangerous, the Weyr owes its continued safety to their work. Some Deygan wingriders act as temporary guards for major functions elsewhere, while others specialize in designing security systems or tracking criminals.

Samhain Wing is the place every new rider starts, and where the Weyrlingmaster and his or her staff are assigned. The training of new riders is serious business, with Weyrlings undergoing intensive drilling and hands-on practice in addition to classroom learning. Between clutches, the Weyrlingmaster's staff is allowed to contract out to other Wings.

All residents of the Weyr, rider or nonrider, are expected to be self-supporting to the extent they are able, from the age of fourteen on. For riders, wing service is optional, but those without a wing will find themselves charged reasonable room and board for both themselves and their dragons. Nonriders may be assigned chores in exchange for their living expenses, if they don't hold a formal position at the Weyr. The High Reaches Weyrwoman is not known for tolerating layabouts.
